Sperm Whales Adopt Dolphin

Scientists from Germany recently discovered a group of sperm whales involved it what appeared to be social adoption-like interaction with a bottlenose dolphin that had a spinal deformity.

The discovery was made in the Eastern Atlantic approximately 900 miles from Portugal near the Azore Islands.

The scientists believe the dolphin was likely abandoned by its pod or couldn’t keep up them.

For eight days, the scientists watched this unique group’s interaction including repeated physical contact.
