Google’s Pixel and Nexus Smartphones December security update is finally out

Google smartphone fans have gotten used to the company’s schedule for releasing their monthly Android security patch. This operation keeps the OS secure and safe. December was no exception this year. Even if we are getting ready for the holidays, Google didn’t forget to launch its traditional security update for Nexus and Pixel smartphones.

However, not all the devices from these lines can brag with improved safety. The ones that have it are more modern models like Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P from the same ”collection” and  Pixel 2, Pixel 2 XL, Pixel 3, Pixel 3 XL and Pixel C from the eponymous line.

In this case, we notice a strange situation: Pixels coming from the first generation, like Pixel and Pixel XL, don’t have the security patch released in December. These devices didn’t receive the last month’s update either, so it makes us wonder if Google doesn’t have some special plans for them.

This time, Google released two security patches in December

The security update released this month is full of surprises. First of all, Google mobile fans and analysts from this area wouldn’t have expected to see Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P upgraded to improved security. This theory was based on the idea that the two devices’ support cycle reached its end.

Another intriguing fact is that Google is making an unexpected move by releasing two security patches this time. The first one appeared on the 1st of December and the 2nd one is scheduled for launch on December 5th 2018.

The first version can ensure partial security and it was created for the use of Google’s OEM partners. The latter has the full set of safety and security features, so it is suitable for roll out on Pixel and Nexus smartphones.

Every update brings improved functionality and the December event is no exception. Users will notice that, once the new security patches gets on their phones, they will be able to enjoy better camera functionality, improved connectivity, Audio function and many more.
