Big WhatsApp Update Could Reach Android Before iOS

WhatsApp is always working on new features in order to enhance the app for its users. This is probably one of the reasons why it is considered one of the best messaging applications in the world, and millions of users access it every day.

This time it appears that another new function is on its way. WhatsApp has always focused on keeping its users safe and this time security will be enhanced by another feature. The news was made public by WABetaInfo.

The upcoming feature

According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp users could soon receive a new feature which would allow them to use fingerprint authentication. This means that the app would be locked until the user would place the finger on the scanner.

We don’t have a release date for this feature yet, but we do know that WhatsApp is currently working on it. This would be a great addition and it would make the app much more secure. With the new feature people wouldn’t be able to access your WhatsApp chats even if they manage to bypass your phone’s password. It is an extra step that could prove to be useful.

We were also shown how this feature could be turned on. Users will be able to enable it from the settings menu of the application. It appears that the new feature might show up on Android phones first. According to sources, the function is already in the “alpha stage” of development for Android.

Reports indicate that the new WhatsApp feature will be available for smartphones running Google Marshmallow and newer versions of the operating system. WABetaInfo previously reported that WhatsApp Touch ID and Face ID should become available for iPhones in the feature, but, once again, we do not have a release date for this.
