New Director For The Big Screen Adaptation Of Minecraft

Warner Bros is working on a big project. The popular game Minecraft will soon become a movie as well. This time we also have a name for the director. It appears that Peter Sollett will be the one who handles the adaptation.

The development

The studios have been working on the Minecraft movie since 2014 when it purchased the movie right. Peter Sollett is not the first director mentioned for this project. We also know that WB was in talks with Rob McElhenney and Shawn Levy amongst others. There were plenty of rumors about the movie, and Steve Carell was supposed to star at one point.

Mojang is the studio responsible for Minecraft and it is also one of the producers for the movie, which means that it has an important word to say when it comes to the story.  Bui explained that they don’t to transform this movie into the standard story for Minecraft, as all players need to create their own adventure while playing Minecraft.

“We don’t want any story that we make, whether it’s a movie or a book, to create some sort of ‘this is the official Minecraft, this is how you play the game’ thing. That would discourage all the players who don’t play in that way. When coming up with a story [for the movie], we want to make sure it is just a story within Minecraft, as opposed to the story within Minecraft,” explained Mojang COO Vu Bui.

This is the first time a movie is released for Minecraft, although the game already had other adaptations such as books and collectibles. The film will tell the story of a teenager who attempts to protect the Overworld from the Ender Dragon. We will let you know as soon as more details are made available.
