PlayStation 5 Needs to Feature a Backward Compatibility Program for PS4, PS3, PS2 and PS Classic

Are you excited for PlayStation 5? We know you are. The entire world is waiting for Sony to finally reveal some official news about the next-gen console, but unfortunately, Sony is doing its best not to leak any details about PlayStation 5. Even though Sony might not want to talk about PlayStation 5 we already have a pretty good idea of what to expect when it comes to next-gen games and older games as well!

The Gaming Industry is Waiting for Sony and Microsoft

The first thing that we want to note is that the entire gaming industry is waiting for Sony and Microsoft to announce their next-gen consoles. Games such as Grand Theft Auto 6 and The Elder Scrolls: 6 are going to ship alongside PlayStation 5 and until Sony decides that times has come for the new console to hit the markets, fans of the Grand Theft Auto and The Elder Scrolls franchises will need to wait.

Backward Compatibility Program

If there is one thing that we can be sure about PlayStation 5’s features, then it has to be the fact that it will come with a backward compatibility program. First off, Microsoft’s Xbox One already comes with a backward compatibility program and this is one of the few advantages that it has over PlayStation 4.

Leaving the competition between Sony and Microsoft aside, Sony actually needs to create a backward compatibility program. PlayStation 5 is not going to have that many games available on launch day and Sony needs to make titles from PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2 and the original PlayStation compatible with PlayStation 5 if it wants the next-gen console to be successful.

Expected Release Date

As previously mentioned, Sony has yet to announce an official release date for PlayStation 5. However, all rumors and speculations from tech analysts are pointing to a 2020 release date. Therefore, we don’t have to wait that long.
