Almost four years ago Microsoft made lots of people happy with an announcement about Windows 10. The OS became a bit thinner when several unnecessary files were removed, and the minimum space requirement was set at 16 GB. That will change with Windows 10 May 2019 update which will increase the needed storage space to 32 Gb.
It was great while it lasted, but it seems that this will be no longer the case as the company has recently announced that the number will be doubled. Some may not be affected but the change, but it is likely that others will feel it when the May update will be released.
When a minimum storage limit is required the companies, who manufacture devices have to offer more than that since additional space will be needed for updates and other operations. A minimum requirement of 16 GB encouraged many companies to offer devices with 32 GB of built-in storage space. It may seem to be a little small at first, but it was more than enough for users who were interested in essential functions like media playback and minor productivity tasks.
Windows 10 May 2019 Update Will Increase The Space Requirements For The OS To 32 Gb
However, Microsoft discovered that more space would be needed for updates and in an era when essential smartphones offer 32 GB of built-in storage space some sources claim that such a change shouldn’t surprise anyone.
The Redmond company has also announced a new feature which will also require additional storage space. To avoid faulty events caused by the fact that there isn’t enough memory available the system will reserve 7 GB of extra space. This means that those who opt for a machine with 32 GB of space will be able to use 5 GB or less for other tasks.
The new storage space requirement will be available for the 64-bit, and 32-bit version of the OS after update 1903 will be released at a later date in May, and which is known as Windows 10 May 2019 update. If you do not have enough free space, you will be stuck with version 1809, which will be supported until 2020.
