How to Increase FPS in Games

increase fps in games

Looking to increase FPS in games? Here’s a tutorial for you.

FPS is a technical acronym, which stands for “frames per second”. It’s otherwise referred to as the frame rate, and it varies across platforms. Typically, a good FPS is a precondition to optimum gaming experience; otherwise, you’re bound to experience lags.

So, if your FPS falls short of standard and you’re experiencing lags, herein is what to do to increase the frame rate.

How to Increase Fps in Games

If you’re experiencing lags in games, the most probable scenario is reduced FPS or frame rate. Usually, your system’s CPU/processing speed is not fast enough to run the game at the standard frame rate (of the game).

In any case, below are some tricks you can try:

Method 1: Reduce resolution

The idea here is quite simple. Basically, the higher the resolution, the higher the CPU usage and the lower the FPS. So, if you feel your game(s) is not running at enough frame rate, you can reduce the resolution to jack it up a notch.

This method may reduce the aesthetics value of your games, but you are able to enjoy an increased FPS.

Method 2: Update graphics drivers

Graphics drivers are not directly related to CPU, which is the primary factor here. However, if your PC is running on outdated graphics card, your CPU could easily becomes overworked, resulting in reduced FPS and consequently game lags.

Therefore, to increase the FPS in your games, and consequently optimize your gaming experience, ensure your graphics drivers are up to date. You can easily go to your graphics card manufacturer’s website and install the latest drivers.

Method 3: Declog disk drive & RAM

An overcrowded system is a disaster waiting to happen. The more apps/games you have on your system, the more the pressure on your CPU, and the lesser the FPS of your games.

In the same vein, by having/running fewer games, each game/app gets allocated more resources (more RAM and faster processing speed). The result – an increase in FPS.

Therefore, ensure there is enough breathing space on your RAM and local (disk) storage at all times.
