A popular social network of the far-right movement “alt-right” announced that it was forced to temporarily shut down operations.
Launched in 2016 on the model of Twitter, Gab said Saturday that Joyent, the company providing access to the internet, was terminating their services as of Monday.
Paypal also announced that it excluded Gab from its online payment services because of hate speech peddled on this site with the benevolence of its administrators.
The backlash against the social network comes after news broke that the service was frequented by Robert Bowers, who allegedly shot and killed 11 people at the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh..
“Gab will probably be out of service for weeks because of that,” the social network reacted to their Twitter account.
“We will continue to fight for freedom of expression and individual online freedom for all. Big tech firms can not stop us. Traditional media can not stop us, “says the social network.
Gab’s motto, “All Welcomed for Self-Expression”, has attracted far-right personalities who have become persona non grata on Twitter.

The man who killed 11 people Saturday morning at a Pittsburgh synagogue in the northeastern United States was identified by authorities as Robert Bowers.
Shortly after, Gab indicated that Robert Bowers’ name matched that of one of their users and that he had immediately closed this account.
In a statement, Gab also said it had a “zero tolerance” for violence and terrorism, saying he was “saddened and disgusted” by the Pittsburgh killings.
