Messenger versus WhatsApp: Which One Is The Right Messaging App For You

At the moment, WhatsApp and Messenger can be considered the most popular messaging applications and billions of people use them. Despite the fact that Facebook owns them both, these two apps are very different. Let’s compare these two and see how these two differ.

Looks

The design of Messenger does seem a bit sleeker. The app comes with some features which allow users to customize it. For example, you can change the color of the chat bubbles for each person. Both apps are supposed to come with a Dark Mode in the feature.

Privacy

When it comes to your messages, WhatsApp makes sure that they remain private. The app uses end-to-end encryption which means that no one can read your messages, except for you and the receiver.

On the other hand, Facebook Messenger encrypts messages from the sender to the server, and then the messages are encrypted once again between the server and the recipient. Since Messenger is directly connected to your Facebook account, we have plenty of reasons to be skeptical about their privacy policies. In fact, Facebook did grant access to private messages to some companies in the past.

Calls

Both apps allow you to place calls, and each one comes with its own advantages and disadvantages. For example, when it comes to group calls, Facebook Messenger is the winner. The app allows you to call up to 50 people, while with WhatsApp you can include more than 4 people in your group call.

Meanwhile, the WhatsApp calls are more reliable. Sometimes you might not have a strong signal, but this isn’t really a problem for WhatsApp. Calls can be placed using any sort of network, including Wi-Fi, 3G and even 2G ones.

Delete messages

This is a feature that WhatsApp has, but Messenger doesn’t. When you delete a message, the receiver will be able to see that.
