Even though the gaming industry is ruled by Battle Royales nowadays with Fortnite and Apex Legends leading the way, this doesn’t mean that mobile games are not making any more money. Minecraft: Pocket Edition was released back in August 16th, 2011 and the mobile game is still going strong to this day. While this might be hard to believe at first, Minecraft: Pocket Edition is generating millions of dollars for Microsoft even after all this time.
Minecraft: Pocket Edition Makes $110 Million in Profits
The folks who are in charge of Minecraft: Pocket Edition have recently announced that the game has generated a whopping $110 million in 2018. This is the most profitable year for the game and the money comes from iOS and Android smartphone users. In addition, the money that Minecraft: Pocket Edition generated in 2018 is 7% more than last year.
The game is priced at $6.99 on iOS and Android. However, the way that Minecraft: Pocket Edition made so much money in 2018 is through in-game purchase such as cosmetic skins and useful items. “The largest portion of spending the game last year came from the United States, at 48 percent of total or approximately $52.9 million. Great Britain’s $7.3 million (about 6.6 percent) was a distant second, while Japan ranked third for spending at 5 percent or approximately $5.5 million,” said Sensor Tower in a recent report.
Fortnite is Taking Over
Minecraft: Pocket Edition did well in 2018 and there is no doubt about that. However, the folks at Sensor Tower revealed that Fortnite is the most successful mobile game on iOS and Android when it comes to profits. Fortnite Mobile made more than $500 million only on iOS and to make things even more impressive, this all happened in less than a year.
