The Octopath Traveler was quite popular, and more than 1.5 million units were shipped all over the world for Nintendo Switch. It appears that the success of the game determined Square Enix to continue the franchise. The 2018 game will receive a prequel, which will be available on mobile devices.
The name of the prequel is Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent and it will be a single-player RPG. The game will be available for free on both Android and iOS and it is expected to come out this year in Japan. The events of the game take place a couple of years before the ones from Octopath Traveler.
Details of the game
The game will have an eight-character party and there will be command-based battles. Players will use swipe controls. The game is set on the Orsterra continent, and you will play as the Chosen One. Your goal is to defeat a powerful rival who has achieved great wealth and game.
There will be various commands that can be used on the characters. For instance, if you need an item you can use the “Steal” option, if you need to get an ally you can use “Hire”, while the “Listen” option will allow you to obtain more information.
The prequel is not the only surprise. Square Enix is also working on a sequel for the 2018 game, but it will take more time until it will be released.
“Everyone waiting for a new game on console, we’re sorry, but production will take a little while longer, so in the meantime, we hope you can enjoy [the smartphone game]!” reads a tweet from the official Twitter account of the game.
On March 12th users can sign up to access the demo for the Octopath Traveler prequel.
