Gearbox announced Borderlands 3 less than a week ago, but the response of the fans has been overwhelmingly positive. Five years have passed since Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel was released, and many gamers were looking forward towards another game in the franchise.
Several forums were filled with threads after Gearbox leaked the potential release date for the game in a tweet posted on April 1st. The tweet mentioned that mayhem would arrive on September 16th, but it was quickly deleted. Another tweet, which was also removed, showed short videos which sparked controversies among the player base.
While the video was quite short eagle-eyed fans spotted the Epic Games Store logo. Epic is hot waters at this point after the company’s new store has been met with a wave of criticism. The storefront doesn’t offer the same features as Steam, and Epic have resorted to a practice which is thoroughly despised by the PC gaming community – timed exclusives.
The controversy started when Deep Silver pulled Metro: Exodus from Steam and the title became an Epic Store exclusive for one year. Other high-ranking developers and publishers followed the trend, and it seems that 2K was eager to join the bandwagon.
Borderlands release date set for September 13th, and it will be an Epic Games Store exclusive title for PC
The Borderlands 3 release date has been officially unveiled, and the title will be available on September 13th. It seems that the previous leaks were real since the title is, after all, an Epic Games Store exclusive for at least six months. It will be available on other storefronts starting with April 2020, but many fans will be disappointed by that decision, for sure.
The cover art of the game has been showcased, and it looks impressive, featuring a Messianic Psych which holds up three fingers, an explicit reference of the fact that this is the third game in the series. Several editions were announced – Standard, Deluxe, Super Deluxe, and the Diamond Loot Chest Collector’s Edition. The last one will include a bunch of physical goodies, including a cloth map and a chest filled with figurines.
While the PC version of Borderlands 3 will be an Epic Games Store exclusive, the console versions will not be affected by this decision.
