If you are excited for the upcoming Minecraft movie, you should know that it will take more time until you’ll have a chance to enjoy it in a cinema. A new Mojang post revealed the release date for the movie.
“That date is March 4, 2022. Does it sound distant? We beg to differ! It’s only 1053 days. Or about 34 months, or 150 weeks, or a million and a half minutes. Not that we’re counting, of course. Besides, it turns out that making a live-action, full-length feature film is really complicated!” read the blog post.
The Mojang blog post also revealed a couple of details about the plot of the upcoming movie. As it turns out, the film will tell “the story of a teenage girl and her unlikely group of adventurers”. They must save Overworld from the evil Ender Dragon. The movie will be directed by Peter Sollett, who is known from Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist. The post also announced that Warner Bros will be the studio handling the movie.
Taking their time
We were glad to see that developers seem to be very excited when it comes to the movie. The post also explained that “making a live-action, full-length feature is really complicated” so we can understand why it will take some time until the movie will be done.
More than that, game developers explained that they are trying their best to make sure that the movie won’t be just a copy of the game. They even listed some of their sources of inspiration, including the things created by the Minecraft community. In fact, the blog post explains that the movie is made specifically for Minecraft fans.
Seems like we’ll have to wait two more years until the movie is out, but hopefully it will be worth it.
