The unveiling of the new Cadillac’s CT4-V and CT5-V has been welcomed with mixed reviews. This because the fans of the highly performant car had expected a minimum of one if not both of the upcoming models to feature the new consecrated V-8 motor of General Motors: the Blackwing.
In place of the holy grail engine, both models will sport twin-turbo V-6 motors which, even though are still doing a great job, are not placing Cadillac’s prototypes in head-on competition with the anticipated European opponents.
Still, Cadillac may have some other resources as it announced two V-Series mock-ups during a drive around the Belle Isle circuit in Detroit on Saturday, May the 29th. There, one of the sport sedans seemed to be sporting the powerful V-8 engine.
Even though Cadillac is keeping silent about the specifications of these two test hybrids, The Drive was present at the Belle Isle race in that weekend and was sure that it heard what is definitely sounded to be the eight-cylinder noise coming from the red-como four-door’s escapement.
The Blackwing will first appear in the upcoming Cadillac CT6-V, featuring 4.2 liters of displacement and hot-V-mounted twin turbocharges. Its horsepower is said to top the 550 figure, with approximation, but with the torque being the celebrity here at 627 pound-feet.
At some point some speculations about this engine also being found in the C8 Chevrolet Corvette which will soon be unveiled, Cadillac stated that no other General Motors brand is permitted to use its powertrain.
When it comes to the official design or production of the super sedan based on CT5, there are no reports. And it will be this way until Cadillac decides whether or not to develop it. In the auto giant’s press release concerning the event, it stated that these two models were just ‘a sneak peek at the future of Cadillac’s V-Series.’
