Infinity Ward is hard at work on the new Call of Duty: Modern Warfare reboot, and there is a lot of pressure on the studio. Rebooting the title which is credited with the establishment of the modern FPS genre is not an easy task, especially when you take into account the fact that the franchise has lost a lot of steam in recent years.
The first gameplay for the game is now available, and it heralds a new direction for the beloved franchise showcased the 2v2 mode, which is known under the name of Gunfight. Select YouTube and Twitch content creators received access to the mode and streamed the gameplay.
Two two-player teams will wage battle against each other across several maps which were crafted with this setup in mind. Players will gain access to pre-set loadouts which are swapped automatically every two rounds.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Reboot Game’s Gameplay Goes In A New Direction
In some of the footage, we can see a loadout which contains a shotgun and a pistol which was then replaced with a sniper rifle loadout. The stakes are quite high since each player has 100 health and there is no way to heal yourself or your teammate.
It can be said that Gunfight is a simplified version of the competitive experience offered by the previous title: Call of Duty Black Ops 4, which featured a wide assortment of mechanics and a focus on modes created around the specialists. How you tackle your enemy may have changed, but it seems that Infinity Ward aims to recreate a more traditional FPS experience.
Modern Warfare will keep the signature elements which made the series a hit in the first place, among which we can count the excellent control and action-filled down sights shooting. By looking at the footage, it is quite easy to say that the studio plans a return to the roots with a gameplay experience which is considerably more grounded and tactical in comparison to the latest titles.
