Picture in Picture mode has finally reached Android users. The feature has been available on iOS devices for more than a year, and it appears that all users can enjoy it now.
For the past few months, the function has been tested. The results must have been satisfying, as the new feature came with the latest update.
Picture in picture mode
This mode allows you to play videos in the WhatsApp chat without opening a new app. For example, if someone sends a YouTube video, you can play it in WhatsApp and it will show up in a hovering small box.
More than that, you can still interact with the chat while watching the video. The small video window has its regular bar at the bottom which means that you can go back, forward or skip certain parts.
You should know that the PiP mode works with various third-party apps, such as Tumblr, Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, and many others. In order to figure out whether a video supports PiP you need to look for a blurred thumbnail and the logo of that platform. If those are not there, it means that the platform does not support PiP. When it does, you can just tap the thumbnail or the link and the video will begin playing.
The feature
The stable version for this feature is out now for Android WhatsApp users. In order to get it, you need to install the latest version of the app. Go to the Google Play Store and make sure that you are up to date.
The PiP mode was first tested on WhatsApp beta before it was finally released. You can too test upcoming functions if you become a WhatsApp beta tester. However, we must warn you that WhatsApp beta does have plenty of bugs and crashes and you should be prepared for them.
