Windows Phone OS is living its last moments. After Microsoft announced that support is coming to an end, Windows 10 Mobile users had to give up on their phones. Now it appears that Microsoft itself suggests customers to make the switch to Android or iOS.
“With the Windows 10 Mobile OS end of support, we recommend that customers move to a supported Android or iOS device. Microsoft’s mission statement to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more, compels us to support our Mobile apps on those platforms and devices,” said Microsoft.
Saying goodbye to the Windows phone
The Windows Phone is officially over. Microsoft has tried for quite some time to make it happen, but to no avail. Back in 2017 the company announced that it won’t release new features and hardware anymore when it comes to the Windows Phone OS.
Active development for Windows 10 Mobile stopped in October 2017, so until now users did have some time to choose another alternative. While it is sad to see an era end, we understand that Microsoft tried its best. It was difficult to find app developers willing to write apps for this OS, and it did not attract a loyal user base.
Nonetheless, this means that there is one less option on the smartphone market. Now users won’t have any other choice but to choose between iOS and Android. The good news is that now Microsoft will have even more time to focus on projects that are actually important. If you own a Windows 10 Mobile phone you should know that it will be possible to use it after the date of December 10, 2019, but you should know that you won’t receive any new updates.
