It is amazing how technology evolves. Back in the day, microSD cards could only increase your phone storage with a couple of GB. However, things have changed, and storage cards are about to become better than ever.
SanDisk and Micron both announced that they are planning to release microSD cards that have 1 TB capacities. This is major news, as 1 TB of space is a lot for any mobile user. To put things into perspective, such a storage card can hold up to 200,000 songs, 500 hours of HD movies and a huge number of HQ pictures.
Since phone cameras are also evolving, a 1 TB space card could transform a smartphone into a professional camera, that can be used by any photographer. More than that, the microSD card would offer more storage than any high end handset. Even the best smartphones have around 128 GB of storage at most.
Size and speeds
The SanDisk announcement was very exciting. Not only that a 1 TB microSD card will be released, but the car will also be the fastest one in the world. 1TB SanDisk Extreme UHS-I microSDXC card will be able to reach speeds up to 160 Mbps. According to SanDisk, this is twice as fast as the standard UHS-I microSD cards that can be found on the market.
Meanwhile, the 1 TB Micron card is also great, although it does have lower speeds. The Micron c200 1TB microSDXC UHS-I card should be able to reach write speeds of 95 Mbps and read speeds of 100 Mbps. These speeds meet the UHS-I Speed Class 3 and Video Speed Class 30 specifications.
In order to use the 1 TB storage cards on your phone, you need to make sure that the device reaches the speeds indicated by Micron and SanDisk. The Micron card will be launched in July, while the SanDisk card will come out in April.
