There’s no much time left until the next generation consoles will be revealed. GameStop made a couple of predictions, and according to the retailer, the reveals might take place soon. In fact, GameStop believes that consoles might hit the shelves as early as 2019.
The next Xbox and PlayStation consoles are highly anticipated by both gamers and game developers, and there have been no official announcements yet. The previous consoles, the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4, were released back in November 2013. After six years the life cycle of the consoles is coming to an end. Despite this fact, the consoles continue to have great sales. The PlayStation 4 was the best selling console of 2018, even compared to the more recent Nintendo Switch.
According to the GameStop CFO Rob Lloyd, the reveals might take place really soon. Lloyd believes that the 2019 sales for consoles will eventually slow down. That’s because customers are awaiting the next-gen consoles. More than that, even those who want to purchase the PS4 or the Xbox One will prefer to wait until the new consoles are released so that the prices for the older ones will go down.
“With respect to new hardware, as we get closer to the end of the current console cycle for Xbox and PlayStation, we expect demand to decline as some customers choose to wait on the sidelines in anticipation of acquiring the next generation of innovative consoles,” Lloyd declared.
There are even more clues which seem to suggest that the new gen consoles are on their way. For instance, there are rumours that the new Xbox will be revealed at E3 2019. When it comes to the PlayStation 5, rumors suggest that the console will have multiple multiplayer exclusives, and it is also supposed to come with backward compatibility, which was missing from PlayStation 4.
