Microsoft Surface Firmware Update Causes WiFi Issues

The latest firmware update for some of the Microsoft Surface models are the ones that caused troubles with the wifi connectivity issues. Its users are complaining that they are no longer able to connect to the wireless networks.

A recent report has indicated that the Surface Book is the one that’s most affected by the firmware update from the 31st of July.

Some users said that they have other models that are affected, including the Surface Pro and the Surface Pro 6.

The problem appears to be the Marvell driver version 15.68.17013.110. It was included in the latest batch of firmware updates for the Microsoft Surface models. Apparently, getting back to a previous version solves the problem.

Microsoft Surface Firmware Update Causes WiFi Issues

One user stated: “I updated the wifi driver to “Marvell Semiconductor, Inc. – Net – 15.68.17013.110″, and after that update, I can’t connect to a 5GHz wifi connection, I can only connect to 2.4 GHz. When I try to connect to the 5GHz, it says: ‘Unable to connect to this network'”.

He then proceeded to tell that he uninstalled the wifi driver, and then restarted the device, thing that helped him get the 5GHz connection back. However, when he tried to install the same driver again, and he tried to connect to 5GHz again, he encountered the same problem.

Microsoft did not acknowledge the problem yet, but we recommend you keep an eye on your wifi performance after you update the Surface models to the latest firmware version.

If the wifi connection to 5GHz networks cannot be made anymore, you can go back to the previous version, because this seems to be the most straightforward workaround. It also does not involve blocking the firmware update. Microfost is yet to give an official statement about this matter. We should soon have more details.
