Does The Andromeda Project Still Have A Future?

We haven’t received any updates about the Andromeda project in quite some time. In fact, many people seem to believe that Microsoft has already abandoned its project. There are plenty of reasons why this might be true, especially if we take a look at the latest reports.

For those who do not know, the Andromeda project was supposed to be a new wave of smartphones, which was expected to come out this year. The Microsoft Andromeda project was expected to bring something revolutionary, similar to the foldable display.

However, during CES 2019, we were able to see that the many new smartphones will come with the foldable display technology in the future. Samsung, Royale and other developers already announced that they will launch devices with a foldable display this year. The screen can be bent, enlarged, minimized, and the style of the display can be changed.

Is Microsoft postponing the project?

Steve Troughton Smith posted an interesting tweet. According to him, the Andromeda project is not on the Microsoft list of upcoming new releases. Troughton-Smith also explained that the project was created for the Windows Phone system.

However, as you already know, the Windows Phone is dead. In fact, Microsoft itself asked those who use Windows Phone to switch to iOS or Android. The platform will stop receiving support by the end of the year. Therefore, it wouldn’t make sense for Microsoft to make the Andromeda project one of their main priorities.

Other projects

Other people, such as Zac Bowden from WindowsCentral, claim that Microsoft is working hard on other projects, and this is one of the reasons why the company is not focusing on the Andromeda project. For instance, the Lite OS appears to be a priority at the moment. However, Lite OS devices might get the Andromeda project in the future.
